Hearthstone Health and Fitness, Inc. (?Hearthstone?), the new fitness and wellness center in Easton, recently announced the members of its management team.
Hearthstone is a new cutting-edge health and fitness center employing ?lifestyle? concepts to improve health, reach new performance heights and effectively slow the aging process. Members, and non-members, will have access to the latest in fitness technology to see how their bodies respond, from the inside out, to focused exercise and a regimen of healthy eating. Members have access to health, nutrition, and fitness advice from the highly qualified staff. The environmentally friendly facility will open in May 2012 in the old Blockbuster building on Marlboro Avenue in Easton.
Dave Tuthill, president and CEO remarks, ?Many gyms employ trainers with limited certifications and non-fitness based education. At Hearthstone, we employ individuals who have undergraduate and in some cases graduate degrees in exercise and health related disciplines like exercise physiology, exercise science, physical education and kinesiology. All of our trainers have industry leading certifications.? Tuthill continues, ?They are compensated based on their performance and customer satisfaction, not based on how much they sell you. This means they care about whether members achieve their results.?

Dave Tuthill, CPA, president and CEO
Dave Tuthill co-founded Hearthstone with his wife, Martha, to ?pay it forward? based on his personal experience of losing over 125 pounds and reaching a point in his wellness where he can manage his Type 2 Diabetes with good nutrition and exercise rather than insulin. Tuthill is a retired CPA with an accounting degree from the College of William & Mary and has over 30 years experience in accounting and finance. He is involved in several local and national charities, and is very active with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation as a current member of their President?s Council. As president and CEO of Hearthstone, Tuthill will lead the strategic direction of the organization and manage its overall function.
Martha Tuthill, vice president
Martha Tuthill co-founded Hearthstone with her husband, Dave, as a result of his exceptional wellness journey and her own weight loss of over 30 pounds. Tuthill has degrees in economics and computer science from the College of William & Mary. She has over 30 years of technology and management experience. Most recently she served as a senior executive for Accenture, the world?s leading technology consulting company, where she consulted with AT&T, Baltimore Gas & Electric, BellSouth, Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Partners Healthcare. She believes strongly in being a consistent local community supporter. Tuthill will manage the overall business administration of Hearthstone.
Norris Woods, Jr., MBA, general manager
Norris Woods Jr. has 15 years of experience in fitness facility operations and health and wellness program management. He has a Master?s in business administration from University of Phoenix and a Bachelor?s in exercise science from Norfolk State University. Woods began his career as a personal trainer and fitness manager for Wegmans Food Markets? Corporate Sports and Wellness Center in Rochester and was an athletic director for multiple ClubCorp private clubs in Pennsylvania and Florida. Most recently, he managed the medical fitness facility at the McConnell Heart Health Campus serving Ohio?s largest healthcare organization (OhioHealth) and the Columbus, Ohio community. Woods will manage the day-to-day activities of Hearthstone.
Ryan Groll, fitness director
Ryan Groll has a Bachelor?s in kinesiology from the University of Maryland and is currently pursuing his Master?s in exercise science and physical education at McDaniel College. Groll has achieved certifications from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American Council on Exercise (ACE) and American Fitness Professional and Associates (AFPA). Groll has worked as a master trainer at 24 Hour Fitness in Annapolis, as the owner/personal trainer at APEX Fitness and as a physical therapist technician at Orthopedic Sports & Medicine Center. He has competed in Regional Natural Bodybuilding competitions along with having coached nutrition and training of multiple bodybuilders and figure competitors. As the fitness director, Groll will lead the fitness training team and will be responsible for maintaining the state-of-the-equipment and conducting fitness testing.
Emily Groll, member services director
Emily Groll has over ten years experience in the fitness industry. She has her Bachelor?s in exercise physiology from West Virginia University. Groll served six years in the U.S. Air Force where she managed her squadron?s fitness program and also held positions as communications systems operator and director of the personnel office. She also has experience as a personal trainer at Gold?s Gym and Sport Fit and is currently a figure competitor and triathlete. Her personal commitment to healthy living provides insight into what it takes to compete and win. As Hearthstone?s member services director, Groll is responsible for delivering an exceptional level of service to members and supporting and promoting the Hearthstone member experience.
Michael Linardi, PCC, life coach
Michael Linardi is a Professional Certified Coach. His education includes a master?s degree in Health and Fitness Management from American University in Washington, DC. For the last 20 years, he has provided health education, prevention, and health promotion programs in corporate and managed care settings. Michael has worked for Johnson and Johnson, General Motors, General Dynamics, Gannett Corporation, and Carefirst. Linardi will provide life coaching to Hearthstone clients who desire to make significant changes to their lifestyle to support their healthy living goals.
Deborah Blood, RD, registered dietitian
Deborah Blood is a Certified Diabetes Educator, Certified Wellness Coach, and Registered Dietitian. After completing her Bachelor of Science degree, she began a career in clinical dietetics. She worked in New England hospitals and outpatients centers educating, instructing and coaching people with diabetes, high blood pressure, heart and kidney disease, lipid disorders, food allergies, obesity, and weight management issues. As a nutrition coach, she will help each person meet his or her individual goals for nutrition, health and fitness using an organic approach. Her unique blend of medical nutrition therapy and behavior modification are combined to help people improve their relationship with food and their food choices. Blood will serve as the nutrition coach for Hearthstone?s clients.
