Boobah on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn is probably a place you want to avoid if you don?t have kids: it?s the kind of child-friendly caf? where the rugrats can run free while the parents take a break from their nightmarish, brat-dominated lives and wonder why the hell they had kids in the first place. Still, the kids? room is actually pretty sweet. Children are screened partially by a giant abacus, perfect for those little ?uns that feel a sudden urge to do math. But the standout feature is the Lego walls. They are completely covered with plates of oversized Lego Duplo, and there are boxes and boxes of Legos for the kids to stick up there. I?m totally going to start working on the Lady to let me convert my bedroom to something similar.

I have a dream, and that dream is that some enterprising individual would open up a bar decorated just like this one. It would of course be way better, as kids would be banned, the mac and cheese would contain cheese, and the hotdogs would? Actually, tofu dogs probably have about as much meat in them as real hotdogs, so they can stay.

North Korea apparently pumping out state-sponsored PCs

North Korea has already made its mark on the tablet market -- albeit a rather unimpressive attempt -- and even produced a supreme leader-approved OS, and now the DPRK is further proving its tech ambitions with the production of three different PC models. In a post published to PCWorld today, Martyn Williams reports on a March 10th state TV broadcast that revealed a North Korean factory where workers are busily assembling the machines by hand. According to Williams, the models in production include a desktop PC and a netbook-sized laptop, designed for educational use. The third variant, an enterprise laptop, boasts dual USB ports, internet connectivity, and two and half hours of battery life. That's about it in the way of specs, but from what we've seen, we doubt these machines are set for world domination. These exercises are preventative in nature and help prevent and help correct issues you may have so that you can avoid an injury and lengthy rehabilitation. Prehab exercises strengthen your muscles and improve flexibility, adding necessary stability to enable you to have optimum performance while avoiding injury.
Everyone should include prehab exercises in her training. A personalized prehab program, developed by a physical therapist or a personal trainer with advanced certification, can consider specific needs associated with certain sports. For instance, a swimmer can help prevent a shoulder injury by doing prehab exercises for the entire shoulder area. A sample program would include scapular stabilization, exercises for all muscles in the shoulder region, upper back and the rotator cuff. The goal is to strengthen all the muscles that are used in the swimming movement.
Here are some sample prehab exercises that you can incorporate into your routine to reduce your risk of injury. Now, these exercises shouldn?t take the place of physical therapy if your doctor has recommended it to you, but you can give them a try to shore up some weak areas.
Mini Band Monster Walks
IT Band pain is common in runners and cyclists. As the gluteus medius (an important hip abductor) loses its ability to control pelvic stability, the body recruits the IT band to help. As the IT band works harder and hard, it gets tighter and causes pain. This exercise strengthens the glute medius. Keep this strong, and IT band problems will start to disappear.
Stand with a mini band around your ankles and feet, about shoulder-width apart. Keep your legs straight and walk sideways. Keep your chest up, knees above toes at all times with tension on the band, and don?t let the feet come together.
Rear Delt Y?s and T?s
The rear deltoids (shoulders) are often neglected by amateur lifters, but strengthening your rear deltoids is particularly important because the front deltoids tend to be worked much more frequently, such as during a chest press exercise. Exercise them equally to maintain good posture and balance in your shoulder area. Well-developed rear delts can also reduce your risk of rotator cuff injuries.

Things You Should Remember On Your Praxis Test Day

You may come across many tips online about how to study for your Praxis exam, however not much guidance is given on what you should keep in mind on the test day. No matter how hard you studied, in the end it's how you perform during the Praxis test itself that will decide if you are going to pass this teacher's certification test or not.

Here are some tips you still follow and embed in your mind so that you know you won't be committing some major blunders that often throw test takers into the pits of failure:

Accept That Mistakes Will Be Made.

Always remember that you are only human, and you are bound to make mistakes during the exam. There's no need to beat yourself up and get stressed out trying to be a perfectionist and scrutinizing your answer 10 times before moving on to the next question. Breathe and remind yourself that the Praxis test was designed to prepare for the mistakes of test takers, which is why you lose fewer points making mistakes than the amount you gain answering questions correctly (for example, half point is deducted for a wrong answer, but you get one whole point if you answer correctly. Note that this is just an example). If you accept that you will mess up a little but that won't take away your potential success, you will be more confident answering the Praxis II test.

Read Carefully.

Once you start the test, be sure to analyze every question properly! The ETS Praxis test takers have set up the multiple choice questions to be tricky, so be sure that you read the questions thoroughly before you attempt them. Look out for words such as "except", "closest to" and so on that most test takers tend to overlook.

Use The Given Resource To Empty Your Mind.

What resource you ask? It's the Praxis II testing booklet! You are allowed to scribble on the booklet, so if you are more of a visual person, write down the information that is buzzing around in your mind when you are attempting to answer a question. Writing things down and drawing diagrams are very helpful especially when answering mathematical questions. If you need more scrap paper, feel free to ask from the Praxis exam proctor assigned to the room you are in.

Don't View The Other Test Takers As Competition.

You are not in a race against the other Praxis examinees in the room, so don't rush yourself just to finish before them! It doesn't matter even if you are the last to finish, just ensure that you have analyzed and answered every question correctly as required, and always double-check. Being the first one out of the examination room is not what is going to guarantee you Praxis II success!

If you are well prepared and also use the above tips during the Praxis exam day, there is nothing to hold back your success from you! Aim for the stars!

SIMON: A huge, rich revival of "Follies" has opened at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., with the original orchestrations. Ms. Peters plays Sally Durant Plummer, a one-time showgirl who attends a bittersweet reunion with her fellow performers, in a cast that includes Elaine Paige, Linda Lavin, and Regine. Bernadette Peters, who's stopped more shows on Broadway than the stagehands union, joins us in our studios. Thanks very much for being with us.

Ms. PETERS: Oh, it's my pleasure to be here again.

SIMON: All the featured roles you've played on Broadway, including several obviously noteworthy Sondheim roles, I mean: "Annie Oakley," Mama Rose in "Gypsy," Witch in "Into the Woods," where does Sally Durant Plummer fit in? How does she compare?

Ms. PETERS: Oh, you know, what's great about it is that there's no comparison. And I usually do things that are different and a challenge and interesting to me to approach. And this is a very interesting character, probably unlike any other character I've ever played really.

SIMON: And how so?

Ms. PETERS: She is horribly disappointed with her life, comes back to the Follies Theater that she performed in 30 years ago, where she was the happiest in her life, and trying to recapture the happiness again and think she is actually, that evening. And then it goes on and on to start crumbling around her and her huge disappointment.

(Soundbite of song, "Losing My Mind")

Ms. PETERS: (as Sally Durant Plummer) (Singing) The sun comes up, I think about you. The coffee cup, I think about you. I want you so. It's like I'm losing my mind.

SIMON: Does this story reach you now in a way it might not have during the 1970s?

Ms. PETERS: Oh, definitely, because I was really a kid. And even when I saw it, I think it was about 2000 there was a revival, maybe 2001. I hadn't read the script until about a year ago. And when I read it, I thought this is just so heartbreaking, really. Not to say the show's not fun, the show has got lots of fun moments and it's haunting and it's gorgeous, because they've come back to this old theater and you notice ghostly, walking really slow, gorgeous showgirls.

It's quite an interesting beautiful show with some rip-roaring numbers. Like you have Linda Lavin singing "Broadway Baby," and you have Elaine Paige bringing down the house singing "I'm Still Here," and Regine bringing all her history. And then the rest of the cast is fantastic, Jan Maxwell and Ron Raines and Danny Burstein.

SIMON: When did the relationship with Stephen Sondheim begin - looking back on it?

Ms. PETERS: When I did "Sunday in the Park with George." I had always was aware of his shows but I never thought I'd ever be in any of his shows.

SIMON: Now, why?

Ms. PETERS: I don't know. I thought I wasn't a Sondheim girl.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Ms. PETERS: And then I got the call when I was I was performing at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, James Lapine called me to say he wrote this new show with Stephen Sondheim and it's to play an artist model. And I thought oh, this would be lovely to do.

SIMON: And from the performer's point of view, what makes him a genius by such universal acclaim?

Ms. PETERS: Wow. It's so hard to put into words. You know, when I went to see "A Little Night Music," before I was even knew I was going to be in it, the music started and I went: Oh my God, I can't believe the person that wrote all those other things also wrote this. The music is so beautiful, classical, involved, intricate.

(Soundbite of song, "A Little Night Music")

Ms. PETERS: But he is like an actor, but with notes and words. He creates what's necessary for the piece. Like an actor turns himself into another character.

SIMON: Mm-hmm.

Ms. PETERS: He does that with notes and music.

(Soundbite of song, "A Little Night Music")

SIMON: When did you first realize that you could sing?

(Soundbite of laughter)

Ms. PETERS: You know, when I was a little girl, they said I had a funny voice because I actually had a deep voice and that's because my mother didn't speak correctly. She had nodes that she had to have removed. So, you grow up listening to your mother. And as years went on and I got out of that bad habit, my real voice revealed itself.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Ms. PETERS: And...

SIMON: And you were talking like this or something?

Ms. PETERS: As a little girl, yeah. And then as a teenager, I started singing soprano and I went, well, I can sing soprano. That's a surprise. And as you keep learning and growing and studying your range, you know, grows and grows.

SIMON: Is there a role you wish you could do over or do again?

Ms. PETERS: Do over. Do again. I usually, once I've done it, I've explored it; I stay for a long time in shows. I like to do that. You know, I'll do it for, like, at least a year and then beyond that. And usually...

SIMON: I mean a lot of big stars like to get out after three or four months, right? They find that hard to do.

Ms. PETERS: Well, it depends how what their makeup is. If you're somebody that gets it and then thinks, you know, I've done it, I've gotten it now and there's no place else to go. It depends on how you like to work. I like the run and I like to keep going deeper and deeper and see what I can learn and experience about life.

SIMON: Thanks so much.

The History Of The CompTIA A+ Certification | Finance Article ...

When CompTIA developed the A+ certification in 1993, it was revolutionary. Prior to this time, IT certifications were limited to particular manufacturers. The qualifications for these certifications had quite a bit in common, and yet people still had to be certified for Dell, Compaq and IBM individually. Then, in 1982, five vendors got together and created the Association of Better Computer Dealers in an effort to improve the IT industry for everyone. They later changed their name to the Computing Technology Industry Association, or CompTIA, to reflect their changing position in the computer industry and the U.S. business scene. This company grew rapidly throughout the 1990s. Today, CompTIA is made up of distributors, manufacturers, resellers and training companies from all areas of IT, and it is considered one of the most important IT organizations in the world.

In 1993, CompTIA developed its first certification program. The company called it the A+ certification to suggest an overall competency with computers. This program was specifically designed to be a vendor-neutral certification, covering a wide range of skills, technologies and operating systems. The original A+ certification consisted of a single exam that was designed to measure the competency of novice IT technicians with at least 500 hours of experience. It was a rigorous exam, but it was the first one to cover the entire IT industry rather than a single vendor. It was a logical springboard into the IT industry and a stepping-stone to other certifications. As such, it quickly became the most popular IT certification in the business.

The A+ certification exam has undergone three major revisions since its inception. The first revision was in 2003, when CompTIA broke the exam into a hardware and a software section. This exam was more relevant to the technologies and operating systems of the time than the previous one, but it only had a pass rate of 3 to 10 percent. In 2006, the company revised the test again. They broke it into two separate tests and revamped it to include new IT developments and achieve a 20 percent pass rate. The first test, called the A+ Essentials, covered the basics. It encompassed eight different areas, including computer components, operating systems, networks and security. The second test was an elective test, and candidates could choose from three different tests based on their desired specialization. These elective tests were the IT Technician test, the Remote Support Technician test and the Depot Technician test. All four of these tests were mostly theory; they included very little practical application.

After three years, it became apparent that the A+ certification test was again becoming obsolete. Employers wanted IT professionals who could supply support across a wide range of areas, and they wanted people who could apply computer theory to real-life situations rather than simply name the parts of a laptop or a PC. As a result, CompTIA created an entirely new certification test in 2009. They got rid of the three elective tests and replaced them with the Practical Application test, and they revised the A+ Essentials test to include new technologies such as Windows Vista, Core 2 Duo and the latest hard drives and types of memory. In addition, they switched the focus of both tests to real-world application rather than theory. This version of the A+ certification test is still considered relevant today.

Another milestone in the CompTIA A+ certification came in 2007. In April of that year, the exam received accreditation from the American National Standards Institute. This gave the certification more prestige, but it also caused some problems. Before the accreditation, all A+ certifications were lifetime certifications. However, in January of 2010, the American National Standards Institute changed their policy so that their certifications expired after three years. As a result, CompTIA downgraded all their lifetime certifications, requiring certified members to re-take the exam every three years or pay an annual fee. People who had previously received certification felt that this was unfair and a violation of the contract they had signed. A month later, CompTIA decided to allow all previous certificate holders to retain their lifetime certification. However, any A+ certification issued after December 31, 2010 would be subject to expiration after three years.

Today, an A+ certification is as relevant in the IT industry as it was when it was developed. It provides a way to enter the IT profession and is often required for IT careers such as help desk technician, IT administrator and computer repair. Many employers look for this certification when hiring entry-level technicians, and some manufacturers require it as a prerequisite to their training programs. Technicians who hold the A+ certificate generally make 5 to 15 percent more than those without it. In addition, many popular certification programs such as Microsoft?s MCSE and MCSA acknowledge the A+ certification and allow it to be used as credit towards their certifications. The A+ Certification has become the preferred way to break into the prestigious field of IT.

In the year 1982, a team of five vendors got together and created the Association of Better Computer Dealers in an effort to improve the IT industry for everyone and provide quality A+ certification courses to the aspirants. Later it become famous with the name Computing Technology Industry Association, which today is one of the most important IT organizations in the world.

Hosted service creates enterprise store for Android, iOS apps

Creating a central site for corporate users to find and install mobile apps, both internal and via online catalogs, is possible now with a new hosted Web service from Partnerpedia. The service currently supports Android applications, with support for iOS apps on Apple iPhones and iPads due this summer.

The company's Enterprise App Store (EAS) brings together authorized mobile apps, both those that are written internally and those third-party apps that reside in Google's Android Market and Apple's iTunes App Store. The approach also makes it possible for IT groups to manage the enterprise licenses for third-party mobile apps.

RESEARCH: 35% use mobile apps before getting out of bed

The new service is an effort to balance the freedom that Android and iOS users are accustomed to in downloading apps with the security, privacy, management, and reporting requirements of an IT group, says Sam Liu, vice president of marketing for Partnerpedia, Morgan Hill, Calif.

EAS mimics the consumer look and feel of the online application catalogs, with ratings and recommendations, and one-click installation. EAS displays mobile apps that are physically resident on the Android or iOS online catalogs. An authorized user only needs to click on an authorized app to launch the respective catalog's download/install process.

The EAS management console provides a range of controls and features for setting up and administering the store and the links to the online catalogs, and for managing users and software licenses. EAS integrates with Microsoft Active Directory or LDAP corporate directories. Enterprise users can be classed into roles, such as "sales" or "marketing" and licenses then can be assigned based on those roles.

Partnerpedia is in talks with a currently unnamed antivirus software vendor to integrate that application with EAS. By doing so, any app published to EAS will be automatically scanned for malware. If any is detected, then the app can be automatically unpublished.

The Partnerpedia service can be branded with your corporate logo. Support for RIM BlackBerry OS apps and Windows Phone 7 will be added later this year.

Enterprise App Store is available now; pricing is a monthly per-user fee "in the low single digits," according to Partnerpedia's Liu.
